The performance "Principles of the Unseen" by Nika Batista explores the connection between the seen and the unseen through movement and textiles. The performative walk, a "thoughtful movement experience", guides the audience through Rafut Park with the artist, who interacts with the space using transparent fabrics. It leads through the Rafut Park among fluttering layers of transparent textiles and fading hopes. Her voice adds fragments of thoughts and facts from the people who have worked with silk right on the ground where the walk is taking place, mixed with what silk can represent as an emotional experience, through history or for the artist herself. The experience aims to create a space where thoughts and memories accumulate, subtly interacting with the environment.
The artist wraps herself with the wind, ties and layers herself with memories.
‘I drag and wrap myself in the wind, binding and layering myself with memories. With the air that seeps through every thread and every blade of grass in the Rafut Park. Thoughts and decaying memories layer, with each step along the path.’
The performance utilises the concept of 'flowing like the wind', exploring the balance between the felt and the seen, with a focus on the human experience and the visualisation of emotions. The artist's movements, combined with the textiles and the park environment, aim to create an experience that transcends the purely physical, making the invisible felt through the visible.
